Living on a little thing called hope

It's been awhile since my last post and believe me, you would thank me. My life has been super crazy. After the disappointment of no calls from New York I decided to change my strategy. I decided to learn more about the industry I was persuing. I took advantage of my work place and orchestrated my own mentorship. I asked permission to work at the photo studio for a couple days to build my network, learn more about the job I wanted to persue, and learn how the people who had the jobs I admired got where they are today. Even though I never had a chance to actually have a job at the photo studio, I got to spend 16 hours in my "dream" world. After many information interviews I had a clear understanding of what each person did to make the direct mail that shows up on your doorstep come to life. I have now seen the entire process.

My next step was to reach out and build my network. I went to a retail career fair, got some business cards and names of people who's title's I admired like, VP of Fashion Direction. I emailed my new contacts and crossed my figures. The lady that I wanted to hear from most didn't email me, she called me! She was so helpful and referred me to more people in Atlanta. I felt like this was my best strategy. I was talking to a variety of VPs everywhere. I felt like I was getting so close, but then again no one was hiring.

The week before my end date I go back to my desk and I see a flashing red light, which by this time usually meant my friend wanted to go out for lunch or something. Much to my surprise it was New York calling to interview me for a position in Special Events. Oh my gosh! I couldn't ask for a more awesome position. I had already talked myself out of New York like 2 times, but shoot it only took a few hours before I was ready to pack my bags and be there again. I had my interview, everything went great, and everyone just kept telling me how I was so perfect for the position...then again, New York never called. Do you see now why I may be a little crazy??

With all the ups and downs, hard work, dedication and persistence, I have still not found a job. I decided to move back home to Indiana to save money and regroup. I love my family, but honestly there are not a lot of jobs to extend my career here. For the first time in 7 years I do not have a boyfriend or one lined up, I do not have a solid plan, or any indication of where my life is taking me. It's really scary if I think about it too much, but it's also kind of refreshing. I have no ties and I am open for any opportunities that may come my way. I, for the first time, do not have any control or feeling of control for my life. I do, however, have an amazing family who is here to support me and love me and that's all I need!
